Love &support is a hidden gem

where_there_is_love_quote_mahatma_gandhi_yogaShe was undeniably compassionate- almost excessively. When others require ample amounts of attention due to their difficulties, or obstacles she always lent an open ear. One that would be understanding, and also ease some of their burden. This constant attack on her energy left her empty, and drained. Void of all energy, unable to recover herself, the need of her assistance still prevalent, to help ease the burden of others.

Her heart simply felt as though it was imploding unable to help others, to be sympathetic or even understanding. She wanted to feel normal, and able to provide her full love and heart to others. Her purpose could not be fulfilled without her vibrancy or sparkle. Unconscious to the fact that she was hurt and needed the warmth, love and tenderness that she had once provided others.

We always find solace in talking to others, to become aware that we are not alone. We are not the only one’s who may be struggling along our path. It takes persistence to achieve success. We may fail 757 times but the 758 might lead to our success. This is why we figure out what it is we are meant to do and persevere no matter how many times we must fall down. When we show others our failures, they are able to compare with their own lives and help provide us with comfort and reassurance, that nothing great is achieved without difficulty. She was having difficulty finding the reassurance she needed to proceed and develop her inner strength. Her explanation of her sentiments was too difficult to fully share, and unload onto the shoulders of others. She dug deep inside and buried them. The hole became overflowing with memories that were overly agonizing, and too damaging to share with others who were oblivious to her truth. It was an ongoing internal battle until she found the missing element.

A space and supportive community that inspire greatness, develop character, grow inner strength, and enhance qualities that already reside within each and everyone who simply show up. They simply show up and remain open in heart and mind to the experiences and knowledge of others. A place to share energy, and transform dark into light. To grow both inside and out. It is a place that has a magic quality within its walls that illuminates even the darkest of places. We tap into awareness with breath, tranquility in stillness and find roots in the present moment happiness that can be ours if we simply let go.

Although she still has the overwhelm that first tried to drag her under, she has developed the muscles she needs and found a support system to help her battle the swells within. She no longer has to feel alone, depleted and without.

Pitta Dosha

Time for some tea this morning!

My dosha is Pitta – which is all about ūüĒ• fire.

There characteristics are as follows:

They have excellent digestion, warm body temperature, sleep soundly for short periods. When pitta is in balance those types will have lustruous complexion, perfect digestion, strong apetite and abundant energy. The have powerful intellect, strong ability to concentrate, when in balance they are good decision makers, teachers and speakers. They are sharp witted, direct and out spoken.

When out of balance

When out of balance, Pittas may suffer from certain physical syptoms like skin rashes, burning sensations, peptic ulcers, excessive body heat, heartburn, and indigestion. Emotionally They can be short-tempered and argumentative.

Good ways to stay in balance:

1. Balance your rest and activity. Let yourself have some free time, dont make time pressures for yourself. Remember don’t always be on the go. Balance rest and relaxation with work and exercise.

2.Don’t skip meals- eat when you are hungry but do not wait until you are famished. Find a good in between, when you start to feel hungry have a litlle something. You also dont want to feel FULL to the top.

3. Eat sweet bitter astringent foods like cucumbers, sweet fruits and melons (grapes, melons, cherries, coconuts, avocados, mangoes, pomegranates, fully ripe pineapples, oranges, and plums ). For veggies asparagus, cucumbers, potatoes, sweet potatoes, green leafy vegetables, pumpkins, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, okra, lettuce, green beans, and zucchini. Olive, sunflower and coconut oils are best used for cooking and cool spices, which include coriander, cilantro, cardamom, saffron, and fennel.

4. Spend time in nature- whether you take walks in the woods or bring nature inside with flowers in home and office. Nature helps balance a little bit of everything because of its grounding ability.

5. Daily massage with cool oils.

6. Blue green and silver in your environments as well as the clothes you wear will help to cool your internal fire.

7. LAUGH A LOT  this is good for everyone!

8. Choose cool scents such as sandalwood, rose, jasmine, mint, lavender, fennel, and chamomile are recommended options.

Waves Of Tranquility

Turquoise, aqua, azure, cobalt, sapphire
From depth to surface
Indistinguishable, interchanging
Flow of colour

Ever changing, immense, power
Always moving
Transforming
Forceful, influential, vigorous swells take you over and under

Witness the intertwining of souls below
Mingle, dance and express life
Beauty, serenity
Found under the natural movement of rapids

The peaks roll forward
And conceal the sand
As they turn into valleys.
Then as quickly as they approached, retreat.

Overwhelming sense of calm
Watch the shift
The gust of air flows past
The roar of the ocean

In silence
We find tranquility
Through repetition
We find peace

Acceptance limits suffering

I have always assumed that my yoga practice was separate from my life. Pretended it was a place to literally forget about everything and hide, shadow myself from the rest of existence.

In some ways it is true, you do forget about the rest of the world, responsibilities, and pressures as you step into presence.  You walk into this place that simply asks you to be with what is happening in the moment. I with every molecule of my being considered running away from everything, as it would be easier that way, but no I stayed. My desire was not to run anymore, to stay and devise a plan to limit suffering. To stay in the  moment is easier said than done in most cases, but with time it came to be easier. We do find a relief from the stress in our life through the practice. For those 60 minutes we experience bliss. Not bliss in the sense that there is nothing challenging us, no obstacles to overcome because that would be wrong. We find bliss in the experience of letting everything else go that will not serve the moment we are currently in. Why experience worries of the future, right now? It simply washes away our focus, and sense of calm with one big wave of emotion.

Through yoga practice we learn to face fear, overcome challenge, and build confidence in ourselves. We face the fear of falling, we overcome the challenge of your mind, and realize we are capable of much more than we give ourselves credit for. Each asana (a.k.a pose) is designed to release the body in some way through stretch or strengthening. The stories we tell ourselves start to expand from pose to pose, you aren’t good enough, flexible enough- “i mean jeeze look at that girl over there she can practically touch her head to the floor.” “Oh the teachers looking at me I better deepen the pose to show her how flexible or strong I am.” In Warrior 2 for instance my shoulders tend to get tired and I want to drop my arms so badly. Sometimes I choose mindfully to release the tension, other days I practice to push through the sensation. Why would you push yourself through the sensation of your arms burning? Well because just like in life it is a challenge and if we always decide to drop our arms because they are tired, we never develop our strength, and never learn to find comfort through difficulty. We are essentially just running away.

When I first began practicing yoga I would always move away from sensation. My legs are tired- oh I will just straighten them. My arms are tired- oh I will just put them on my hips.  I think you get the picture. However it is through discomfort or challenge that we learn to find comfort that we learn to face the challenge and develop our inner strength- that is when magic happens. We realize our tendencies, mine simply to run away.

What is this magic? Well it’s awareness, it’s knowledge, and it’s presence. To be fully aware and conscious with the choices we make and why we make them. Most of us live our daily lives unconsciously. Thoughts and choices presented to us, and usually we shy away from the options that we deem negative or we do not particularly like. When we really love something we fully immerse ourselves in it, almost getting lost, and when we don’t we tend to run away. If we detach ourselves from results we limit suffering. Instead of clinging to the outcome we desire, simply let everything fall into place the way it is supposed to. This does not mean stop trying to achieve goals, it means accept all situations/people that present themselves, they are an opportunity along our path. They are presented to us as either a gift or for growth. They may be the support we need when we need it, or maybe they are our challenge that brings with it, magic. Either way they are a blessing.

Magic Can Happen

There are so many people all over the world who have so much to say, they can contribute their voice on a monumental scale. With clarity in their mind and power in their voice they move mountains, influence others to act. Is it solely the conviction in their voice or is it something else- do we recognize ourselves in them- all we need is a little confidence and to connect our mind to our heart?

There are so many people who say they have confidence, but you look at them and their body language tells a completely different story. With shrugged shoulders, and no eye contact you know confidence is not among their strengths. As a person with deficit in that area it can be hard to find that inner strength or voice that can lead you to develop your voice and confidence. I accept that I am not perfect, nor will I ever be but there is a plan. Someone or something out there is looking out for me and things happen for a reason, there is always a reason things unfold the way they do whether it is as a blessing or a lesson we are given what we need in each moment, to propel us forward to dive deeper gain more insight, and move forward on our path. We do take breaks in our journey, to eat, drink, use the bathroom, stop and simply enjoy the view but life is not about staying stagnant and unmoving, it is about constantly learning and growing. When we learn to accept this, we learn to harness our inner power. Our inner power is the same energy that powers the Divine or Universe if you so choose. When you realize this, you know that you have extraordinary and unlimited power.

It is a power that resides within you, and everyone else on this planet- we are all one. We may all look very different, sound different, act different we all have that same potential inside of us that we can harness if we so choose. When we harness this potential this is when magic can happen.

Composed like magnets

To nourish oneself with the origins
To absorb the knowledge of the earth without supplement
Natural, unselfish and bountiful

Generations & evolution altered provisions
Chemically & biologically evident the virus

Metamorphosis in food creates metamorphosis in devourers
more ailments, illness, disease & affliction
where fear is the mastermind.

Realization of our patterns, our why
provides clarity and cures
we mature and flourish

Acceptance & love the path in our journey
obstacles perceived as enlightening rather than misfortunes
we grow, we learn we create

the purpose to choose
potent constructive thoughts
to create influential and inspiring behaviours in ourselves and others

we like a magnet attract similarity,
choose nourishing/loving thoughts &beliefs
and that is what will manifest.

Patience & Bravery

From deep within the dark corridor
You begin to hear the howling
The sound of fear strengthens
Breath quickens with distress.

Heart beat expands to neck and fingertips
Emotions flood in and take over
Anger being the first to surface
rage fills and devours you into darkness.

Current thoughts and events fill the mind
like a cloud cover
But body reacts like upheaval repeats
to drag you back under

Delayed awareness infiltrates mind
After reaction and emotions manifest
Too late to withdraw
All that’s left is to recognize and acknowledge

Apologies, acceptance and wisdom follow exposure
Transcendence unavoidable
The time will come
Patience and bravery will deliver attainment

The Sun rises again

Warmth dissipates,
life hushed and serene,
Dormancy, lethargy follow

Still lingers the impressions of scars,
buried just below the surface
As not to disturb.

Time may heal, but not regenerate
Nothing will ever be as it was exactly
Always slight remodeling, as time always moves forward.

Transformation is not instantaneous,
You are not one then the other
always a transition period – a period of in between.

We overcome challenge with persistence,
like a river leaves an impression on the bank,
not an easy task.

Time & movement propel forward
We grasp easy, clear, painless
Avoid existence of wounds.

In between is where we learn,
we develop,
our “flaws” turn into strengths.

We dove into this journey,
with knowledge of transcendence
But progression is imperceptible.

Nearest has difficulty to judge progress
perpetual movement forward inevitable
Happiness is on the horizon.

Transition almost complete
Sun heightens, intensifies
The dawning of a new day.

There is nothing more important than your community

For a long time I lived in a place where I felt like a stranger, I did not have much connection with others in the city where I lived. I felt so out-of-place and disconnected that I felt the need for a big change, and soon enough my whole life shifted.

I found my community in yoga studio in my hometown, Moksha Yoga Fredericton. It is in the heart of the city and for good reason. Teachers and students alike are open-hearted hippie warriors determined to create a beautiful loving atmosphere for themselves and anyone else who wants to be apart of it. It is an essential part of my life, as it provides relaxation, clarity, insight and a piece of happiness that you can not find anywhere else.

The community welcomed me with open arms on a frigidly cold day last February when I was asked to sub a yoga class on a lunch hour one Friday afternoon. I graciously accepted, having been given such a marvelous opportunity, sometimes your mind rapidly takes a swan dive into fear– well what if I am not good enough, what if my sequence isn’t right or challenging enough, the what ifs can be never-ending …¬† After that 60 minutes, those worries, anxieties and fears evaporated. I was where I was meant to be. You have all these like-minded people wanting to expand their knowledge of themselves and their abilities Just like what I have been searching for. Just like that, I clicked into place with all those other yogis, what I had been looking for, what I had been missing I finally found it. This yoga studio had filled that void that was left empty for so long.

Community is so important because it gives you a sense of belonging, they allow us to interact with like-minded individuals, share experiences, develop valued relationships that work towards a specific goal, and without community we live a pretty isolated, desolate life.  These are the people who surround your life and directly impact the person you become. As individuals we weave our spirits into everything that we do, whether we make a bracelet for a friend or a painting for a collector our spirit has imprinted on that object, same can be said for the people we spend our time with. They weave their spirits into ours and vice versa. With that being said it may alter your current situation- you may choose differently in the future but it may not change your situation at all.  Let the people that support, uplift, motivate to do better, be who you are and be the best you possible spend the most time with you because they will help you achieve success in all the areas of your life.

Get out there get involved, do something you love in your community to broaden your connections, your circle and your life.
